We set out with the Prophet ﷺ heading to Khaybar. A man from the group said, "Amir, why don't you let us hear some of your verses?"So Amir dismounted and began chanting to drive the camels along, reciting,"By Allah, had it not been for Allah, we would not have been guided."He recited other verses too, but I do not remember them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Who is this driver?"They replied, "Amir bin al-Akwa."He said, "May Allah have mercy on him."A man from the group said, "Prophet of Allah, if only you had let us benefit from him longer."When the people met the enemy, they fought them, and Amir bin al-Akwa was struck by the hilt of his own sword and died. When evening came, the people lit many fires. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What are these fires? What are you cooking on them?"They said, "Domestic donkey meat."He said, "Pour out what is in them and break the pots."A man said, "Should we not just pour out what is in them and wash them?"He replied, "Or that."
