He came as part of a delegation to the Prophet ﷺ with a group from Banu Amir. He said, "We came to him and greeted him, then we said, 'You are our patron, you are our master, you are the most exalted among us.'"Yunus said in his version, "You are the most exalted among us in stature, you are the most superior among us in merit, and you are the great bowl of generosity."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Say only what you have to say, and do not let Satan put words in your mouths."The narrator said, "Sometimes he said, 'And do not let him lead you astray.'"
قال حدثنا سويد بن عمرو وعبد الصمد قالا حدثنا مهدي حدثنا غيلان
أنه وفد إلى النبي ﷺ في رهط من بني عامر قال فأتيناه فسلمنا عليه فقلنا أنت ولينا وأنت سيدنا وأنت أطول علينا قال يونس وأنت أطول علينا طولا وأنت أفضلنا علينا فضلا وأنت الجفنة الغراء فقال قولوا قولكم ولا يستجرنكم الشيطان قال وربما قال ولا يستهوينكم
