Hisham bin Amir reported,

The Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud and said, "Messenger of Allah, we have suffered wounds and exhaustion. What do you command us to do?"He said, "Dig the graves, make them wide, and place two or three men in a single grave."They asked, "Whom shall we put first?"He replied, "The one who has memorized the most of the Quran."So my father Aws was placed ahead of one or two men.

جاءت الأنصار إلى رسول الله ﷺ يوم أحد فقالوا يا رسول الله أصابنا قرح وجهد فكيف تأمرنا قال احفروا وأوسعوا واجعلوا الرجلين والثلاثة في القبر قالوا فأيهم نقدم قال أكثرهم قرآنا قال فقدم أبي عامر بين يدي رجل أو اثنين
