The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and Sufyan once said that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Gold for silver is usury unless exchanged hand to hand, wheat for wheat is usury unless exchanged hand to hand, barley for barley is usury unless exchanged hand to hand, and dates for dates is usury unless exchanged hand to hand."
حدثنا سفيان عن الزهري سمع مالك بن أوس بن الحدثان سمع
قال رسول الله ﷺ وقال سفيان مرة سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول الذهب بالورق ربا إلا هاء وهاء والبر بالبر ربا إلا هاء وهاء والشعير بالشعير ربا إلا هاء وهاء والتمر بالتمر ربا إلا هاء وهاء
Its isnad is sahih. Sufyan is Ibn Uyayna. Al-hadthan is with fatha on the ha and dal, and with a tha with three dots. "Haa wa haa" means that each of the two parties in the sale gives what is in his hand, similar to the other hadith except that it is hand for hand, meaning an exchange taking place in the same sitting, as stated in Nihaya.
