Sahl bin Abu Hathma reported,

I saw Muhammad bin Maslama following a woman with his gaze, so I said to him, "You look at her, when you are one of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ?"He replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'When Allah casts into a man's heart the intention to propose to a woman, there is no harm in his looking at her.'"

عن سهل بن أبي حثمة قال

رأيت محمد بن مسلمة يطارد امرأة ببصره فقلت تنظر إليها وأنت من أصحاب محمد ﷺ فقال إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إذا ألقى الله عز وجل في قلب امرئ خطبة لامرأة فلا بأس أن ينظر إليها
