I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The greatest of fabrications are three: that a man fabricates against his own eyes by claiming he saw something he did not see, that he fabricates against his parents by attributing himself to someone other than his father, and that he claims to have heard from me what he did not hear from me."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي قال حدثنا معاوية بن صالح عن ربيعة بن يزيد قال سمعت
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إن أعظم الفرى ثلاثة أن يفتري الرجل على عينيه يقول رأيت ولم ير وأن يفتري على والديه فيدعى إلى غير أبيه أو يقول سمعني ولم يسمع مني
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Its narrators have already been mentioned, and Rabia bin Yazid is Dimashqi, the trustworthy one. The hadith is found in Hakim 4/398, and Dhahabi concurred with him.
