He related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out, and the people traveled with him toward Makkah. When they reached the valley of al-Kharrar in al-Juhfah, Sahl bin Hunayf bathed. He was a man of fair complexion with a beautiful body and skin. Amir bin Rabia, of the clan of Bani Adi bin Kaab, looked at him while he was bathing and said, "I have never seen anything like what I see today, not even the skin of a sheltered maiden."Sahl was immediately struck down. He was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and it was said to him, "Messenger of Allah, can you do something for Sahl? By Allah, he cannot lift his head and has not regained consciousness."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you suspect anyone of harming him?"They said, "Amir bin Rabia looked at him."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Amir, became angry with him, and said, "Why would one of you kill his brother? When you see something that pleases you, why do you not invoke blessing upon it?"Then he said to him, "Wash yourself for him."So Amir washed his face, hands, elbows, knees, the ends of his feet, and the inside of his lower garment in a vessel. Then that water was poured over Sahl. A man poured it over his head and back from behind, tipping the vessel over him from behind. When this was done for him, Sahl got up and went along with the people, with nothing wrong with him.
حدثنا حسين بن محمد قال حدثنا أبو أويس حدثنا الزهري
حدثه أن رسول الله ﷺ خرج وساروا معه نحو مكة حتى إذا كانوا بشعب الخزار من الجحفة اغتسل سهل بن حنيف وكان رجلا أبيض حسن الجسم والجلد فنظر إليه عامر بن ربيعة أخو بني عدي بن كعب وهو يغتسل فقال ما رأيت كاليوم ولا جلد مخبأة فلبط سهل فأتي رسول الله ﷺ فقيل له يا رسول الله هل لك في سهل والله ما يرفع رأسه وما يفيق قال هل تتهمون فيه من أحد قالوا نظر إليه عامر بن ربيعة فدعا رسول الله ﷺ عامرا فتغيظ عليه وقال علام يقتل أحدكم أخاه هلا إذا رأيت ما يعجبك بركت ثم قال له اغتسل له فغسل وجهه ويديه ومرفقيه وركبتيه وأطراف رجليه وداخلة إزاره في قدح ثم صب ذلك الماء عليه يصبه رجل على رأسه وظهره من خلفه يكفئ القدح وراءه ففعل به ذلك فراح سهل مع الناس ليس به بأس
Its isnad is sahih, its narrators well known. Abu Uways is Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Uways al-Asbahi, a well-known trustworthy narrator and relative of Malik. Abu Umama bin Sahl is Asad, who is trustworthy and had seen the Prophet, and some said he had companionship with him, being counted among the companions. This hadith was mentioned earlier at 15640, and it is found in the Sahihayn.
