I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ looking dishevelled and shabby. He asked, "Do you have any wealth?"I said, "Yes."He asked, "What kind of wealth?"I said, "Every kind of wealth, camels, slaves, horses, and sheep."He said, "When Allah grants you wealth, let its mark be visible upon you."Then he asked, "Do the camels of your people give birth to their young with their ears intact, so that you then take a knife and cut their ears, saying, 'This is a bahirah,' and slit them, or slit their skins, and say, 'This is a surm,' and forbid them to yourself and your family?"I said, "Yes."He said, "What Allah has given you is for you. Allah's forearm is stronger, and Allah's knife is sharper." And perhaps he said, "Allah's forearm is stronger than your forearm, and Allah's knife is sharper than your knife."I said, "Messenger of Allah, what do you say about a man with whom I stayed as a guest, and he did not honor me nor offer me hospitality, then he later came to stay with me. Should I repay him in kind for what he did, or should I show him hospitality?"He said, "Show him hospitality."
