A boy among them died, and his parents grieved over him intensely. Hawshab, a companion of the Prophet ﷺ, said, "Shall I not tell you what I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say concerning the like of your son? A man among his companions had a son who had reached the age of training, or just begun to walk, and he used to come along with his father to the Prophet ﷺ. Then his son died, and his father grieved over him for nearly six days, not coming to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'I do not see so-and-so.'They replied, 'Messenger of Allah, his son has died, and he is grieving over him.'So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'So-and-so, would you like for your son to be with you now as the most lively of boys, full of energy? Would you like your son to be with you as the boldest and bravest of youths? Would you like your son to be with you as a mature man, like the finest of mature men? Or that it be said to you, Enter Paradise as a reward for what was taken from you?'"
حدثنا يحيى بن إسحاق من كتابه قال أخبرنا ابن لهيعة عن عبد الله بن هبيرة
أن غلاما منهم توفي فوجد عليه أبواه أشد الوجد فقال حوشب صاحب النبي ﷺ ألا أخبركم بما سمعت من رسول الله ﷺ يقول في مثل ابنك إن رجلا من أصحابه كان له ابن قد أدب أو دب وكان يأتي مع أبيه إلى النبي ﷺ ثم إن ابنه توفي فوجد عليه أبوه قريبا من ستة أيام لا يأتي النبي ﷺ فقال النبي ﷺ لا أرى فلانا قالوا يا رسول الله إن ابنه توفي فوجد عليه فقال له رسول الله ﷺ يا فلان أتحب لو أن ابنك عندك الآن كأنشط الصبيان نشاطا أتحب أن ابنك عندك أحر الغلمان جراءة أتحب أن ابنك عندك كهلا كأفضل الكهول أو يقال لك ادخل الجنة ثواب ما أخذ منك
