People used to lease farmland during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in exchange for the produce of the irrigation channels, what was watered by the streams, and a portion of the straw. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked leasing farmland on these terms and forbade it.Rafi said, "There is no harm in leasing it for dirhams and dinars."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد قال حدثنا عبد العزيز بن محمد عن ربيعة بن أبي عبد الرحمن عن حنظلة الزرقي
أن الناس كانوا يكرون المزارع في زمان رسول الله ﷺ بالماذيانات وما سقى الربيع وشيئا من التبن فكره رسول الله ﷺ كراء المزارع بهذا ونهى عنها وقال رافع لا بأس بكرائها بالدراهم والدنانير
Its isnad is sahih. Abdul-Aziz bin Muhammad is Darawardi. Rabia bin Abu Abdul-Rahman is Rabia Rai. Hanzala is Ibn Amr bin Hanzala Zurqi, whom they deemed reliable, and Bukhari cited him outside the Sahih, and Ibn Hibban deemed him reliable, and Abu Hatim said, "Truthful."The hadith was narrated by Bukhari 3/137 (printed edition), in the chapter on farming, sharecropping for a share of the crop, and Muslim 3/1183 no. 1547, and Abu Dawud 3/258 no. 3392, and Nasai 7/43 no. 3899, and it has already appeared at 14570.
