Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to launch a military expedition, he would rarely announce it openly, instead disguising his true objective by hinting at a different destination. The expedition of Tabuk was an exception. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ undertook it during intense heat, facing a long journey across barren terrain and confronting a numerous enemy. So he made the matter clear to the Muslims, informing them plainly of the destination he intended, so that they could prepare adequately to face their enemy.
