I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, and Ismail said, Hajjaj bin Abu Uthman informed me, he said, Yahya bin Abu Kathir narrated to us that Ikrima, the freed slave of Ibn Abbas, narrated to him, he said, Hajjaj bin Amr al-Ansari narrated to me, he said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever breaks a limb or becomes lame is released from his pilgrimage state, but he must perform another Hajj."He said, "I mentioned that to Ibn Abbas and Abu Hurairah, and they both said, 'He has spoken the truth.'"Ismail said, "I narrated that to Ibn Abbas and Abu Hurairah, and they both said, 'He has spoken the truth.'"

سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول وإسماعيل قال أخبرني الحجاج بن أبي عثمان قال حدثنا يحيى بن أبي كثير أن عكرمة مولى ابن عباس حدثه قال حدثني الحجاج بن عمرو الأنصاري قال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من كسر أو عرج فقد حل وعليه حجة أخرى قال فذكرت ذلك لابن عباس وأبي هريرة فقالا صدق قال إسماعيل فحدثت بذاك ابن عباس وأبا هريرة فقالا صدق
Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are reliable memorizers, and Hajjaj the Weaver is Ibn Abu Uthman, Abu Salt Kindi, their client, the trustworthy and well-known memorizer.The hadith was reported by Abu Dawud, 2/173, no. 1862, in the Book of Rites, chapter on being blocked from completing the pilgrimage, and by Tirmidhi, 3/268, no. 940, in the Book of Hajj, chapter on what has been said about one who assumes the state of ihram, where he said, hasan sahih, and by Nasai, 5/198, no. 2860, in the Book of Rites, chapter on one who is blocked, and by Ibn Majah, 2/1028, no. 3077, with the same wording.The meaning of the hadith is that anyone who is struck by some obstacle preventing him from continuing on his Hajj may release himself from his state of ihram and return to his family, and perform Hajj afterward if he is able. The meaning of the hadith is not that a broken bone or a limp invalidates the Hajj, for whoever is able, despite his broken bone or his limp, to complete the Hajj has fulfilled his obligation. This is what the commentators on the Sunan works have said.
