He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "When one of you is in his prayer, he must not raise his gaze toward the sky, lest his sight be snatched away."
حدثنا علي بن إسحاق قال أخبرنا عبد الله قال أخبرنا يونس عن ابن شهاب قال حدثني عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن عتبة بن مسعود أن
أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ قال إذا كان أحدكم في صلاته فلا يرفع بصره إلى السماء أن يلتمع بصره
Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are well known and trustworthy, and all of them have been mentioned previously. Ali bin Ishaq is Marwazi, Abdullah is Ibn Mubarak, and Yunus is the son of Abu Ishaq Sabi, who is confirmed trustworthy and whose hadith appears in Muslim and others. Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utba bin Masud is the trustworthy, firmly reliable jurist.The hadith prohibiting raising the gaze toward the sky has already been mentioned at 8788 and 13645. Bukhari related it with similar wording in the Book of Adhan, 2/333, no. 750 Fath. Muslim, 1/321, no. 429, and Abu Dawud, 1/240, no. 913, both in the Book of Prayer, on the prohibition of raising the gaze, Nasai, 3/39, no. 1267, and Ibn Majah, 1/332, no. 1043.
