He said, By Allah, we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Khaybar one evening when a flock of sheep belonging to a Jewish man came along, heading toward their fortress while we were besieging them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who will get us food from these sheep?"Abu Yusr said, "I will, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Go ahead."I dashed off running like an ostrich, and when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw me sprinting away, he said, "O Allah, let us enjoy his company for a long time."I caught up with the flock just as the front ones had entered the fortress, so I grabbed two ewes from the rear, tucked them under my arms, and came back running as if I were carrying nothing, until I dropped them in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They slaughtered them and ate.Abu Yusr was among the last of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to die. Whenever he related this hadith, he would weep and then say, "They were granted my long company. By my life, I was the last of them."
