He said to Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, Talha, Zubayr, and Saad, "I adjure you by Allah, by whom the heavens and the earth stand," and on one occasion he said, "by whose permission they stand, do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'We are not inherited from. What we leave behind is charity'?"They replied, "By Allah, yes."
حدثنا سفيان عن عمرو عن الزهري عن مالك بن أوس سمعت
لعبد الرحمن بن عوف وطلحة والزبير وسعد نشدتكم الله الذي تقوم به السماء والأرض وقال مرة الذي بإذنه تقوم أعلمتم أن رسول الله ﷺ قال إنا لا نورث ما تركنا صدقة قالوا اللهم نعم
Its chain of transmission is sahih. It is a repeat of 1406 with its chain and wording, but there it reads, "Sufyan, from Amr, from Zuhri," while here "from Amr" is omitted. Sufyan bin Uyayna heard directly from Zuhri and also narrated from him through an intermediary, and it appears that here it should be the same as there, and it was dropped by the copyist. This is supported by the fact that it previously appeared once before at 1391 with it included. The hadith is an abridgment of 425. See also 1781 and 1782.
