My father arranged my marriage during the rule of Uthman, and he invited a group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Safwan bin Umaya came, and he was a very old man. He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Tear meat with your teeth, for it is more wholesome and more easily digested," or he said, "more pleasant and more easily digested."Sufyan said, "The doubt is from me or from him."
حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن عبد الكريم
زوجني أبي في إمارة عثمان فدعا نفرا من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ فجاء صفوان بن أمية وهو شيخ كبير فقال إن رسول الله ﷺ قال انهسوا اللحم نهسا فإنه أهنأ وأمرأ أو أشهى وأمرأ قال سفيان الشك مني أو منه
Its isnad is hasan, because of Abdul-Kareem bin Abu Mukhariq, and the hadith revolves around him. Abu Dawud narrated it through his route, 3/350, no. 3779, in the Book of Foods, chapter on eating meat, and Tirmidhi, 4/276, no. 1835, and he pointed out the criticism of Abdul-Kareem and that he alone narrated it, and Darimi, 2/145, no. 2070, and Tabarani in al-Kabir, 8/57.It will come later with another wording, which is more sahih than this one. I have only graded it hasan here, despite the daif grading of Abdul-Kareem, for two reasons.First, because of its corroborating narrations, for handling meat directly is a sunnah the Prophet ﷺ practiced, and it is found in the Sahihayn [Bukhari 6/271, no. 3340, Fath, and Muslim 1/184, no. 194].Second, because Bukhari tolerated this Abdul-Kareem and did not criticize him in his Tarikh.
