We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition, which they say was the expedition against Banu Mustaliq, when a man from the Emigrants kicked a man from the Helpers from behind. The Helper called out, "Help, Helpers!" and the Emigrant called out, "Help, Emigrants!"The Prophet ﷺ heard this and said, "What is this call of the days of ignorance?"He was told, "A man from the Emigrants kicked a man from the Helpers."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave it alone, for it is rotten."Jabir said, "When the Emigrants first arrived in Medina, they were fewer in number than the Helpers, but later the Emigrants grew many."Word of what had happened reached Abdullah bin Ubayy, who said, "So they have done it! By Allah, when we return to Medina, the mightier among us will surely drive out the weaker."Umar heard this and went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, let me strike off the head of this hypocrite."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave him, Umar. Let it not be said among the people that Muhammad kills his own companions."
حدثنا حسين بن محمد حدثنا سفيان يعني ابن عيينة عن عمرو قال سمعت
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في غزوة قال يرون أنها غزوة بني المصطلق فكسع رجل من المهاجرين رجلا من الأنصار فقال الأنصاري يا للأنصار وقال المهاجري يا للمهاجرين فسمع ذلك النبي ﷺ فقال ما بال دعوى الجاهلية فقيل رجل من المهاجرين كسع رجلا من الأنصار فقال النبي ﷺ دعوها فإنها منتنة قال جابر وكان المهاجرون حين قدموا المدينة أقل من الأنصار ثم إن المهاجرين كثروا فبلغ ذلك عبد الله بن أبي فقال فعلوها والله لئن رجعنا إلى المدينة ليخرجن الأعز منها الأذل فسمع ذلك عمر فأتى النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله دعني أضرب عنق هذا المنافق فقال النبي ﷺ يا عمر دعه لا يتحدث الناس أن محمدا يقتل أصحابه
