A woman from the tribe of Makhzum committed theft and sought refuge with Usama bin Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She was brought before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Even if it were Fatimah, her hand would be cut off." And so her hand was cut off.

أن امرأة من بني مخزوم سرقت فعاذت بأسامة بن زيد حب رسول الله ﷺ فأتي بها رسول الله ﷺ فقال لو كانت فاطمة لقطعت يدها فقطعها
Its isnad is hasan, and the hadith is well-known and widely recognized. Bukhari narrated it at length, 25/8, no. 4304, Fath, in the book of military expeditions. Muslim narrated it, 1316/3, in the book of legal punishments, chapter on amputating the hand of the thief. Tirmidhi narrated it, 37/4, no. 1430, in the book of legal punishments, chapter on the dislike of interceding regarding legal punishments. Nasai narrated it, 72/8, in the chapter on amputating the hand of the thief, mentioning the differences in the transmitters' wordings. And Abdul-Razzaq narrated it, 202/10, no. 18831.
