The Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplied us with a sack of dates for our journey. He would dole them out to us a handful at a time, then later one date at a time. We would suck on each date and drink water with it to last until nightfall.Then the sea cast up a dead whale, and Abu Ubayda said, "You are warriors and you are hungry, so eat." So we ate from it.When we mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said, "It is provision that Allah brought out for you. If you have any of it left with you, feed us some."We had some of it remaining, so some of the men sent it to him, and he ate from it.
حدثنا محمد بن بكر أخبرنا ابن جريج أخبرني أبو الزبير أنه سمع
زودنا رسول الله ﷺ جرابا من تمر فكان يقبض لنا قبضة قبضة ثم تمرة تمرة فنمصها ونشرب عليها الماء حتى الليل فألقى البحر حوتا ميتا فقال أبو عبيدة غزاة وجياع فكلوا فأكلنا فذكرناه لرسول الله ﷺ فقال رزقا أخرجه الله لكم فإن كان معكم شيء فأطعمونا فكان معنا منه شيء فأرسل به إليه بعض القوم فأكل منه
