Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on an intensely hot day. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led his companions in prayer. He prolonged the standing until they began to collapse, then he bowed and prolonged the bowing, then he raised his head and prolonged it, then he bowed and prolonged the bowing, then he raised his head and prolonged it, then he made two prostrations. Then he stood and did the same again. Then he began to step forward, then he began to step back. So it was four bowings and four prostrations.Then he said, "Everything that you have been promised was shown to me. Paradise was shown to me, so much so that had I reached out for a cluster of its fruit I could have taken it," or he said, "I reached out for a cluster of its fruit but my hand fell short of it," Hisham was uncertain which. "And the Fire was shown to me, and I began to step backward out of fear that it would engulf you. I saw in it a tall black Himyari woman being punished because of a cat she had tied up, neither feeding it nor giving it water nor letting it eat from the creatures of the earth. And I saw Abu Thumama Amr bin Malik dragging his entrails in the Fire. These two are signs from the signs of Allah which He shows you, so when an eclipse occurs, pray until it clears."

حدثنا كثير بن هشام حدثنا هشام بن أبي عبد الله صاحب الدستوائي عن أبي الزبير

عن جابر بن عبد الله الأنصاري قال

خسفت الشمس على عهد رسول الله ﷺ في يوم شديد الحر فصلى رسول الله ﷺ بأصحابه فأطال القيام حتى جعلوا يخرون ثم ركع فأطال الركوع ثم رفع رأسه فأطال ثم ركع فأطال الركوع ثم رفع رأسه فأطال ثم سجد سجدتين ثم قام فصنع مثل ذلك ثم جعل يتقدم ثم جعل يتأخر فكانت أربع ركعات وأربع سجدات ثم قال إنه عرض علي كل شيء توعدونه فعرضت علي الجنة حتى لو تناولت منها قطفا أخذته أو قال تناولت منها قطفا فقصرت يدي عنه شك هشام وعرضت علي النار فجعلت أتأخر رهبة أن تغشاكم فرأيت فيها امرأة حميرية سوداء طويلة تعذب في هرة لها ربطتها فلم تطعمها ولم تسقها ولم تدعها تأكل من خشاش الأرض ورأيت أبا ثمامة عمرو بن مالك يجر قصبه في النار وإنهما آيتان من آيات الله عز وجل يريكموها فإذا خسفت فصلوا حتى تنجلي
