Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

A Jewish woman in Medina gave birth to a boy whose eye was wiped out, protruding and bulging. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ feared that he might be the Dajjal, so he went looking for him and found him under a velvet covering, mumbling to himself. His mother noticed the Messenger and called out to her son, "Abdullah, here is Abu Qasim. He has come, so come out to him."The boy emerged from under the covering.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What is wrong with her? May Allah destroy her. Had she left him alone, he would have made things clear."Then he said, "Ibn Sayyad, what do you see?"He replied, "I see truth, and I see falsehood, and I see a throne upon the water."So the matter was confused for him.The Prophet asked, "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?"The boy replied, "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?"The Messenger of Allah said, "I believe in Allah and His messengers." Then he left him and departed.He came to him another time and found him among some palm trees of his, mumbling to himself. His mother again noticed and called out, "Abdullah, here is Abu Qasim. He has come."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What is wrong with her? May Allah destroy her. Had she left him alone, he would have made things clear."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was hoping to hear something from his speech so that he might know whether or not he was the Dajjal.He said, "Ibn Sayyad, what do you see?"He replied, "I see truth, and I see falsehood, and I see a throne upon the water."The Prophet asked, "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?"The boy replied, "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I believe in Allah and His Messenger." So the matter was again confused for him. Then he left and departed.Then he came a third or fourth time, accompanied by Abu Bakr, Umar bin Khattab, and a group of the Muhajirun and Ansar, and I was with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ hurried ahead of us, hoping to hear something from his speech, but his mother got to him first and said, "Abdullah, here is Abu Qasim. He has come."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What is wrong with her? May Allah destroy her. Had she left him alone, he would have made things clear."He said, "Ibn Sayyad, what do you see?"He replied, "I see truth, and I see falsehood, and I see a throne upon the water."The Prophet asked, "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?"The boy replied, "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I believe in Allah and His messengers." So the matter was confused for him.Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Ibn Sayyad, I have hidden something for you. What is it?"He said, "Ad-dukh, ad-dukh."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Be off! Be off!"Umar bin Khattab said, "Give me permission to kill him, Messenger of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "If he is the one, then you are not the one to deal with him. The one who will deal with him is Isa son of Maryam ﷺ. And if he is not the one, then you have no right to kill a man who is under a covenant of protection."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued to fear that he was the Dajjal.

حدثنا محمد بن سابق حدثنا إبراهيم بن طهمان عن أبي الزبير

عن جابر بن عبد الله أنه قال

إن امرأة من اليهود بالمدينة ولدت غلاما ممسوحة عينه طالعة ناتئة فأشفق رسول الله ﷺ أن يكون الدجال فوجده تحت قطيفة يهمهم فآذنته أمه فقالت يا عبد الله هذا أبو القاسم قد جاء فاخرج إليه فخرج من القطيفة فقال رسول الله ﷺ ما لها قاتلها الله لو تركته لبين ثم قال يا ابن صائد ما ترى قال أرى حقا وأرى باطلا وأرى عرشا على الماء قال فلبس عليه فقال أتشهد أني رسول الله فقال هو أتشهد أني رسول الله فقال رسول الله آمنت بالله ورسله ثم خرج وتركه ثم أتاه مرة أخرى فوجده في نخل له يهمهم فآذنته أمه فقالت يا عبد الله هذا أبو القاسم قد جاء فقال رسول الله ﷺ ما لها قاتلها الله لو تركته لبين قال فكان رسول الله ﷺ يطمع أن يسمع من كلامه شيئا فيعلم هو هو أم لا قال يا ابن صائد ما ترى قال أرى حقا وأرى باطلا وأرى عرشا على الماء قال أتشهد أني رسول الله قال هو أتشهد أني رسول الله فقال رسول الله ﷺ آمنت بالله ورسوله فلبس عليه ثم خرج فتركه ثم جاء في الثالثة أو الرابعة ومعه أبو بكر وعمر بن الخطاب في نفر من المهاجرين والأنصار وأنا معه قال فبادر رسول الله ﷺ بين أيدينا ورجا أن يسمع من كلامه شيئا فسبقته أمه إليه فقالت يا عبد الله هذا أبو القاسم قد جاء فقال رسول الله ﷺ ما لها قاتلها الله لو تركته لبين فقال يا ابن صائد ما ترى قال أرى حقا وأرى باطلا وأرى عرشا على الماء قال أتشهد أني رسول الله قال أتشهد أنت أني رسول الله فقال رسول الله ﷺ آمنت بالله ورسله فلبس عليه فقال له رسول الله ﷺ يا ابن صائد إنا قد خبأنا لك خبيئا فما هو قال الدخ الدخ فقال له رسول الله ﷺ اخسأ اخسأ فقال عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه ائذن لي فأقتله يا رسول الله فقال رسول الله ﷺ إن يكن هو فلست صاحبه إنما صاحبه عيسى ابن مريم ﷺ وإن لا يكن هو فليس لك أن تقتل رجلا من أهل العهد قال فلم يزل رسول الله ﷺ مشفقا أنه الدجال
