The Prophet ﷺ called for a sheet of paper near the time of his death so that he could write a document by which they would never go astray after him. Umar bin Khattab opposed this, until the Prophet ﷺ set the matter aside.
Its chain is hasan, and the hadith was narrated at length by Bukhari and Muslim in the account of the death of the Prophet ﷺ. See Sahih Bukhari 1/39, in the Book of Knowledge, chapter on writing down knowledge, and Muslim 3/1257, number 1637, in the Book of Bequests, chapter on leaving a bequest for one who has nothing.
