Bishr asked Jabir bin Abdullah about the trial of the grave, and Jabir replied, I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "This nation will be tested in their graves. When the believer is placed in his grave and his companions depart from him, an angel of severe rebuke comes to him and asks, 'What did you used to say about this man?'The believer answers, 'I say he is the Messenger of Allah and His servant.'The angel then says to him, 'Look at your seat that was in the Fire. Allah has saved you from it and has exchanged it for the seat you see in Paradise.' He sees both of them.The believer says, 'Let me go and give the good news to my family.'He is told, 'Stay where you are.'As for the hypocrite, when his family leaves him, he sits up and is asked, 'What did you used to say about this man?'He answers, 'I do not know. I said what the people said.'He is told, 'May you not know. This was your seat that had been prepared for you in Paradise, but in its place you have been given your seat in the Fire.'"Jabir said, I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "Every servant will be raised in the grave in the state in which he died. The believer upon his faith, and the hypocrite upon his hypocrisy."
حدثنا موسى بن داود حدثنا ابن لهيعة
أنه سأل جابر بن عبد الله عن فتاني القبر فقال سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول إن هذه الأمة تبتلى في قبورها فإذا أدخل المؤمن قبره وتولى عنه أصحابه جاء ملك شديد الانتهار فيقول له ما كنت تقول في هذا الرجل فيقول المؤمن أقول إنه رسول الله وعبده فيقول له الملك انظر إلى مقعدك الذي كان في النار قد أنجاك الله منه وأبدلك بمقعدك الذي ترى من النار مقعدك الذي ترى من الجنة فيراهما كلاهما فيقول المؤمن دعوني أبشر أهلي فيقال له اسكن وأما المنافق فيقعد إذا تولى عنه أهله فيقال له ما كنت تقول في هذا الرجل فيقول لا أدري أقول ما يقول الناس فيقال له لا دريت هذا مقعدك الذي كان لك من الجنة قد أبدلت مكانه مقعدك من النار قال جابر فسمعت النبي ﷺ يقول يبعث كل عبد في القبر على ما مات المؤمن على إيمانه والمنافق على نفاقه
