I asked Jabir about a man who takes another man's freed slave as his patron without the latter's permission. He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ decreed that each clan is responsible for paying its own blood-money, and he further decreed that it is not permissible for anyone to take a Muslim man's freed slave as his patron without that man's permission."
