Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and it happened on the day his son Ibrahim died. People said, "The sun was eclipsed because of Ibrahim's death."So the Prophet ﷺ stood and led the people in prayer, performing six bowings within four prostrations. He pronounced the takbir, then recited at length, then bowed for nearly as long as he had stood. Then he raised his head and recited again, but shorter than the first recitation. Then he bowed for nearly as long as he had stood. Then he raised his head and recited again, shorter than the second recitation. Then he bowed for nearly as long as he had stood. Then he raised his head and went down to prostrate, performing two prostrations.Then he stood and performed three bowings before prostrating, each bowing being shorter than the one before it, with each bowing roughly equal in length to the standing that preceded it. Then he stepped back during his prayer, and the rows stepped back with him. Then he stepped forward and stood in his original place, and the rows stepped forward as well. He completed the prayer just as the sun had become clear again.Then he said, "People, the sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah . They are not eclipsed because of the death of any human being. When you see anything of that, pray until they become clear. There is nothing you have been promised that I have not seen in this prayer of mine.The Fire was brought before me, and that is when you saw me step back, fearing that its scorching heat would reach me, until I said, 'My Lord, am I to be among them?' And I saw in it the man with the crooked staff dragging his intestines in the Fire. He used to steal from the pilgrims with his crooked staff. If he was noticed, he would say, 'It just got caught on my staff,' but if the owner was inattentive, he would make off with it.And I saw in it the woman of the cat, who had tied it up and neither fed it nor let it eat from the creatures of the earth, until it died of hunger.And Paradise was brought near, and that is when you saw me step forward until I stood in my place. I stretched out my hand wanting to take some of its fruit so you could see it, but then it seemed best to me not to do so."

حدثنا يحيى عن عبد الملك أخبرني عطاء

عن جابر قال

كسفت الشمس على عهد رسول الله ﷺ وكان ذلك اليوم الذي مات فيه إبراهيم عليه السلام ابن رسول الله ﷺ فقال الناس إنما كسفت الشمس لموت إبراهيم فقام النبي ﷺ فصلى بالناس ست ركعات في أربع سجدات كبر ثم قرأ فأطال القراءة ثم ركع نحوا مما قام ثم رفع رأسه فقرأ دون القراءة الأولى ثم ركع نحوا مما قام ثم رفع رأسه فقرأ دون القراءة الثانية ثم ركع نحوا مما قام ثم رفع رأسه فانحدر للسجود فسجد سجدتين ثم قام فركع ثلاث ركعات قبل أن يسجد ليس فيها ركعة إلا التي قبلها أطول من التي بعدها إلا أن ركوعه نحو من قيامه ثم تأخر في صلاته وتأخرت الصفوف معه ثم تقدم فقام في مقامه وتقدمت الصفوف فقضى الصلاة وقد طلعت الشمس فقال يا أيها الناس إن الشمس والقمر آيتان من آيات الله عز وجل وإنهما لا ينكسفان لموت بشر فإذا رأيتم شيئا من ذلك فصلوا حتى تنجلي إنه ليس من شيء توعدونه إلا قد رأيته في صلاتي هذه ولقد جيء بالنار فذلك حين رأيتموني تأخرت مخافة أن يصيبني من لفحها حتى قلت أي رب وأنا فيهم ورأيت فيها صاحب المحجن يجر قصبه في النار كان يسرق الحاج بمحجنه فإن فطن به قال إنما تعلق بمحجني وإن غفل عنه ذهب به وحتى رأيت فيها صاحبة الهرة التي ربطتها فلم تطعمها ولم تتركها تأكل من خشاش الأرض حتى ماتت جوعا وجيء بالجنة فذلك حين رأيتموني تقدمت حتى قمت في مقامي فمددت يدي وأنا أريد أن أتناول من ثمرها لتنظروا إليه ثم بدا لي أن لا أفعل
