Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar reported,
He was with Maslama bin Abdul-Malik in Roman territory when stolen war booty was found among the belongings of a man. Maslama asked Salim bin Abdullah about it, and Salim said, "Abdullah told me, on the authority of Umar 
, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever you find with stolen war booty among his belongings, burn it.'" He said, "I think he also said, 'And beat him.'"So his belongings were brought out into the marketplace, and a copy of the Quran was found among them. Maslama asked Salim about it, and he replied, "Sell it and give its price in charity."

عن سالم بن عبد الله
أنه كان مع مسلمة بن عبد الملك في أرض الروم فوجد في متاع رجل غلول فسأل سالم بن عبد الله فقال حدثني عبد الله عن عمر رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله ﷺ قال من وجدتم في متاعه غلولا فأحرقوه قال وأحسبه قال واضربوه قال فأخرج متاعه في السوق قال فوجد فيه مصحفا فسأل سالما فقال بعه وتصدق بثمنه
Its chain of transmission is daif. Salih bin Muhammad bin Zaidah is Abu Waqid Laythi the younger. Bukhari said, "His hadith is munkar," and Sulayman bin Harb abandoned him. He narrated from Salim, from his father, from Umar, raising it to the Prophet, "Whoever you find has stolen from the spoils, burn his belongings." No one else corroborates this, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Pray over your companion," and he did not burn his belongings.Most of our scholars rely on this hadith regarding theft from war spoils, but it is a baseless hadith with no foundation, and this Salih cannot be relied upon.The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, 3:21, and by Hakim in Mustadrak, 2:127–128, who graded it sahih, and Dhahabi agreed with him.Abdul-Aziz bin Muhammad is Darawardi.
