Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and Yazid said in his version of the report, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "When you hear the barking of dogs and the braying of donkeys at night, seek refuge with Allah, for they see what you do not see. Go out less when foot traffic has died down, for Allah sends forth in His night whatever He wills of His creation. Shut your doors and mention the name of Allah over them, for Satan does not open a door that has been shut with the name of Allah mentioned over it. Tie up your waterskins, cover your jars, and turn your vessels upside down."Yazid added, "And tie up your waterskins."

حدثنا محمد بن أبي عدي عن محمد بن إسحاق ح ويزيد قال أخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق المعنى عن محمد بن إبراهيم عن عطاء بن يسار

عن جابر بن عبد الله قال

قال رسول الله ﷺ قال يزيد في حديثه سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إذا سمعتم نباح الكلاب ونهاق الحمير من الليل فتعوذوا بالله فإنها ترى ما لا ترون وأقلوا الخروج إذا هدأت الرجل فإن الله عز وجل يبث في ليله من خلقه ما شاء وأجيفوا الأبواب واذكروا اسم الله عليها فإن الشيطان لا يفتح بابا أجيف وذكر اسم الله عليه وأوكئوا الأسقية وغطوا الجرار وأكفئوا الآنية قال يزيد وأوكئوا القرب
