A man from the Ansar gave his mother a garden of date palms for the duration of her lifetime. When she died, his brothers came and said, "We are equal partners in it." He refused, so they took their dispute to the Prophet ﷺ, who divided it among them as inheritance.

Its isnad is sahih. Humayd bin Qays Makki, the lame, the Quran reciter, is deemed reliable by the scholars, and his hadith is found in all six books. This hadith has already appeared under 14112, and Haythami declared it sahih in 4/156. It is also found in Abu Dawud with similar wording, 30/293, number 3577, in the chapter on business transactions.
