Zubayr reported,

On the day of Uhud, a woman came running, and when she was about to come within sight of the slain, the Prophet ﷺ disliked that she should see them. He said, "The woman, the woman!"Zubayr said, "I sensed that she was my mother, Safiyya, so I rushed out toward her and caught up with her before she reached the slain. She struck me on the chest, for she was a strong woman, and said, 'Out of my way, I have no concern for you!'"He continued, "I said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ insists that you stop.' So she halted and brought out two garments she had with her and said, 'These are two garments I brought for my brother Hamza, for news of his killing has reached me. Shroud him in them.'"He continued, "We came with the two garments to shroud Hamza in them, but beside him lay a man from the Ansar who had been killed and mutilated as Hamza had been. We felt embarrassed and ashamed to shroud Hamza in two garments while the man from the Ansar had no shroud at all. So we said, 'One garment for Hamza and one for the Ansari.' We measured them and found that one was larger than the other, so we drew lots between them, and each was shrouded in the garment that fell to him."

حدثنا سليمان بن داود الهاشمي أنبأنا عبد الرحمن يعني ابن أبي الزناد عن هشام عن عروة قال

أخبرني أبي الزبير رضي الله عنه

أنه لما كان يوم أحد أقبلت امرأة تسعى حتى إذا كادت أن تشرف على القتلى قال فكره النبي ﷺ أن تراهم فقال المرأة المرأة قال الزبير رضي الله عنه فتوسمت أنها أمي صفية قال فخرجت أسعى إليها فأدركتها قبل أن تنتهي إلى القتلى قال فلدمت في صدري وكانت امرأة جلدة قالت إليك لا أرض لك قال فقلت إن رسول الله ﷺ عزم عليك قال فوقفت وأخرجت ثوبين معها فقالت هذان ثوبان جئت بهما لأخي حمزة فقد بلغني مقتله فكفنوه فيهما قال فجئنا بالثوبين لنكفن فيهما حمزة فإذا إلى جنبه رجل من الأنصار قتيل قد فعل به كما فعل بحمزة قال فوجدنا غضاضة وحياء أن نكفن حمزة في ثوبين والأنصاري لا كفن له فقلنا لحمزة ثوب وللأنصاري ثوب فقدرناهما فكان أحدهما أكبر من الآخر فأقرعنا بينهما فكفنا كل واحد منهما في الثوب الذي صار له
