Abu Bakr was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ between Makkah and Madinah. Abu Bakr used to travel to Sham and was recognized by people, while the Prophet ﷺ was not recognized. So people would say, "Abu Bakr, who is this young man riding in front of you?"He would reply, "This one guides me along the way."When they drew near Madinah, they stopped at al-Harrah and sent word to the Ansar, who came out to them and said, "Come forward, you are safe and will be obeyed."He said, I witnessed him on the day he entered Madinah, and I never saw a day more beautiful or more radiant than the day he entered upon us. And I witnessed him on the day he died, and I never saw a day uglier or darker than the day on which he ﷺ died.

أن أبا بكر كان رديف رسول الله ﷺ بين مكة والمدينة وكان أبو بكر يختلف إلى الشام وكان يعرف وكان النبي ﷺ لا يعرف فكانوا يقولون يا أبا بكر ما هذا الغلام بين يديك قال هذا يهديني السبيل فلما دنوا من المدينة نزلا الحرة وبعثا إلى الأنصار فجاءوا فقالوا قوما آمنين مطاعين قال فشهدته يوم دخل المدينة فما رأيت يوما قط كان أحسن ولا أضوأ من يوم دخل علينا فيه وشهدته يوم مات فما رأيت يوما كان أقبح ولا أظلم من يوم مات فيه ﷺ
