The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a graveyard belonging to Banu Najjar in an orchard, riding a white mule, when suddenly he came upon a grave whose occupant was being punished. The mule shied. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Were it not that you would cease to bury one another, I would ask Allah to let you hear the punishment of the grave."
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد قال أخبرنا ثابت وحميد
أن رسول الله ﷺ مر بمقبرة لبني النجار في حائط وهو على بغلة شهباء فإذا هو بقبر يعذب فحاصت البغلة فقال رسول الله ﷺ لولا أن لا تدافنوا لسألت الله أن يسمعكم عذاب القبر
