Its chain of transmission is sahih. Qays bin Nawwah Azdi was graded reliable, and he has a narration in Muslim, though some scholars criticized him for his Shia leanings. Ashath bin Jabir Haddani was also graded reliable, and his hadith appears in the four Sunan works. The hadith is found in Bukhari 7/151, in the Book of Medicine, chapter on the merit of one who loses his sight, and in Tirmidhi 4/251, number 2400, in the Book of Asceticism, chapter on what has been said about patience upon the loss of sight, where he said, hasan gharib. He also cited another hadith from Abu Hurairah with the same wording, and said, hasan sahih.
