The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him, so he went out to them and led them in a short prayer, then he entered his house and stayed for a long time. Then he came out to them again and led them in a short prayer, then went back inside and stayed for a long time.When morning came, they said, "Messenger of Allah, we came to you last night, and you led us in prayer briefly, then went into your house and stayed inside a long while."He replied, "I did that for your sake."Hammad said, Thabit had narrated this hadith to us from Thumama, so I met Thumama and asked him about it.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد حدثنا ثمامة
أن رسول الله ﷺ جاءه أصحابه فخرج إليهم فصلى بهم فخفف ثم دخل بيته فأطال ثم خرج إليهم فصلى بهم فخفف ثم دخل فأطال فلما أصبح قالوا جئناك البارحة يا رسول الله فصليت بنا فخففت ثم دخلت بيتك فأطلت فقال إني فعلت ذلك من أجلكم قال حماد وكان حدثنا هذا الحديث ثابت عن ثمامة فلقيت ثمامة فسألته
