One day I felt a surge of desire and kissed my wife while I was fasting. I went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have done something terrible today. I kissed while fasting."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What do you think if you were to rinse your mouth with water while fasting?"I replied, "There would be nothing wrong with that."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "So what is the issue?"
حدثنا حجاج حدثنا ليث حدثني بكير عن عبد الملك بن سعيد الأنصاري عن جابر بن عبد الله
هششت يوما فقبلت وأنا صائم فأتيت النبي ﷺ فقلت صنعت اليوم أمرا عظيما فقبلت وأنا صائم فقال رسول الله ﷺ أرأيت لو تمضمضت بماء وأنت صائم قلت لا بأس بذلك فقال رسول الله ﷺ ففيم
Its isnad is sahih. Hajjaj is Ibn Muhammad Masissi. Layth is Ibn Saad. Bukayr is Ibn Abdullah bin Ashaj. Abdul-Malik is Abdul-Malik bin Saeed bin Suwayd Ansari, a trustworthy successor.The hadith was also transmitted by Abu Dawud, Nasai, and Hakim in Mustadrak 1:431, who graded it sahih according to the standard of the two sheikhs, and Dhahabi agreed with him. In Nayl Awtar 4:287, it is said that Nasai transmitted it and said it is munkar, and Abu Bakr Bazzar said, "We do not know it to be narrated from Umar except by this route." Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn Hibban, and Hakim graded it sahih. I do not know what basis there is for calling it munkar. That is why Dhahabi, in Mizan 2:149, quoted Nasai's statement, then said, "It was narrated by Bukayr bin Ashaj, who is trustworthy, from Abdul-Malik, from whom more than one person has narrated. So I do not know what this is about."
