The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took three pebbles. He placed one down, then placed another in front of him, and threw the third away. He said, "This is the son of Adam, this is his appointed term, and that one which he threw is his hope."
حدثنا عبد الصمد بن حسان أخبرنا عمارة عن ثابت
أن رسول الله ﷺ أخذ ثلاث حصيات فوضع واحدة ثم وضع أخرى بين يديه ورمى بالثالثة فقال هذا ابن آدم وهذا أجله وذاك أمله التي رمى بها
Its isnad is sahih. Abdul-Samad bin Hassan Marwazi was deemed trustworthy by Ahmad and Abu Hatim, and they said he had been the servant of Sufyan bin Uyayna, then became a judge in Bara. The hadith has already appeared at 13631.
