Ali bin Abu Talib reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered, or summoned, the sons of Abdul-Muttalib. They were a group of men, each capable of eating a young camel and drinking a large bowl of milk in one sitting. He prepared for them a single mudd of food, and they ate until they were full, yet the food remained as it was, as if untouched. Then he called for a cup of drink, and they drank until they were satisfied, yet the drink remained as if untouched, or as if no one had drunk from it.Then he said, "Sons of Abdul-Muttalib, I have been sent specifically to you and to all people in general. You have witnessed of this sign what you have witnessed. Which of you will pledge allegiance to me on the condition that he will be my brother and my companion?"No one rose to him. So I rose to him, and I was the youngest of the group.He said, "Sit down."He said this three times, each time I rose to him, and he would tell me, "Sit down," until on the third time he struck his hand upon mine.

حدثنا عفان حدثنا أبو عوانة عن عثمان بن المغيرة عن أبي صادق عن ربيعة بن ناجذ

عن علي رضي الله عنه قال

جمع رسول الله ﷺ أو دعا رسول الله ﷺ بني عبد المطلب فيهم رهط كلهم يأكل الجذعة ويشرب الفرق قال فصنع لهم مدا من طعام فأكلوا حتى شبعوا قال وبقي الطعام كما هو كأنه لم يمس ثم دعا بغمر فشربوا حتى رووا وبقي الشراب كأنه لم يمس أو لم يشرب فقال يا بني عبد المطلب إني بعثت لكم خاصة وإلى الناس بعامة وقد رأيتم من هذه الآية ما رأيتم فأيكم يبايعني على أن يكون أخي وصاحبي قال فلم يقم إليه أحد قال فقمت إليه وكنت أصغر القوم قال فقال اجلس قال ثلاث مرات كل ذلك أقوم إليه فيقول لي اجلس حتى كان في الثالثة ضرب بيده على يدي
