The Messenger of Allah ﷺ shortened the dawn prayer one day. It was said, "Messenger of Allah, why did you shorten it?"He replied, "I heard a child crying and thought his mother was praying with us, so I wanted to free his mother for him."Hammad also said, "I thought his mother was praying with us, so I wanted to free his mother for him."Affan said, "I found this report in more than one place in my notes, narrated from Ali bin Zayd, Humayd, and Thabit, from Anas bin Malik."
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد بن زيد قال أخبرنا علي بن زيد وحميد
أن رسول الله ﷺ جوز ذات يوم في صلاة الفجر فقيل يا رسول الله لم تجوزت قال سمعت بكاء صبي فظننت أن أمه معنا تصلي فأردت أن أفرغ له أمه وقد قال حماد أيضا فظننت أن أمه تصلي معنا فأردت أن أفرغ له أمه قال عفان فوجدته عندي في غير موضع عن علي بن زيد وحميد وثابت عن أنس بن مالك
