When Mecca was conquered, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed the spoils among the Quraysh. The Ansar said, "How astonishing this is! Our swords are still dripping with their blood, yet our spoils are being handed over to them."Word of this reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he gathered them and asked, "What is this that has reached me about you?"They replied, "It is just as you have heard," for they would not lie.He said, "Are you not pleased that the people return with worldly goods while you return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? If the people were to take one valley or mountain pass and the Ansar took another, I would take the valley of the Ansar, or the mountain pass of the Ansar."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن أبي التياح قال سمعت
لما فتحت مكة قسم رسول الله ﷺ الغنائم في قريش فقالت الأنصار هذا لهو العجب إن سيوفنا تقطر من دمائهم وإن غنائمنا ترد عليهم فبلغ ذلك رسول الله ﷺ فجمعهم فقال ما هذا الذي بلغني عنكم قالوا هو الذي بلغك وكانوا لا يكذبون فقال أما ترضون أن يرجع الناس بالدنيا وترجعون برسول الله ﷺ إلى بيوتكم لو سلك الناس واديا أو شعبا وسلكت الأنصار واديا أو شعبا لسلكت وادي الأنصار أو شعب الأنصار
