Faruq reported,

The freed slave of Uthman reported that Umar , who was then the Commander of the Believers, went out to the mosque and saw food scattered about. He asked, "What is this food?"They replied, "Food that has been brought to us."He said, "May Allah bless it and bless the one who brought it."It was said, "Commander of the Believers, it has been hoarded."He asked, "Who hoarded it?"They replied, "Faruq, the freed slave of Uthman, and so-and-so, the freed slave of Umar."So he sent for them and summoned them, then asked, "What led you to hoard the food of the Muslims?"They replied, "Commander of the Believers, we buy with our own money and we sell."Umar said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever hoards food from the Muslims, Allah will strike him with bankruptcy or with leprosy.'"At that, Faruq said, "Commander of the Believers, I make a covenant with Allah and a covenant with you that I will never again deal in food."As for the freed slave of Umar, he said, "We only buy with our own money and we sell."Abu Yahya said, "Indeed, I later saw the freed slave of Umar afflicted with leprosy."

عن فروخ

مولى عثمان أن عمر رضي الله عنه وهو يومئذ أمير المؤمنين خرج إلى المسجد فرأى طعاما منثورا فقال ما هذا الطعام فقالوا طعام جلب إلينا قال بارك الله فيه وفيمن جلبه قيل يا أمير المؤمنين فإنه قد احتكر قال ومن احتكره قالوا فروخ مولى عثمان وفلان مولى عمر فأرسل إليهما فدعاهما فقال ما حملكما على احتكار طعام المسلمين قالا يا أمير المؤمنين نشتري بأموالنا ونبيع فقال عمر سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من احتكر على المسلمين طعامهم ضربه الله بالإفلاس أو بجذام فقال فروخ عند ذلك يا أمير المؤمنين أعاهد الله وأعاهدك أن لا أعود في طعام أبدا وأما مولى عمر فقال إنما نشتري بأموالنا ونبيع قال أبو يحيى فلقد رأيت مولى عمر مجذوما
