He was asked about the voluntary prayers and fasting of the Prophet ﷺ. He said, "He used to fast so much during the month that we would say he did not intend to break his fast at all, and he would go without fasting so much that we would say he did not intend to fast at all. There was no time at night we wished to see him praying but we found him praying, nor any time we wished to see him sleeping but we found him sleeping."

أنه سئل عن صلاة النبي ﷺ وصومه تطوعا قال كان يصوم من الشهر حتى نقول ما يريد أن يفطر منه شيئا ويفطر حتى نقول ما يريد أن يصوم منه شيئا وما كنا نشاء أن نراه من الليل مصليا إلا رأيناه ولا نراه نائما إلا رأيناه
