I was the cupbearer of the people on the day wine was made forbidden. Some of Abu Talha's companions had gathered with him when a man came and announced, "Wine has been made forbidden!"Abu Talha said to me, "Go out and check."So I went out and looked, and I heard a caller announcing, "Wine has been made forbidden!"I informed him, and he said, "Go and pour it out."So I went and poured it out. Some of them remarked, "Suhayl bin Bayda has been killed while it was still in his belly!"Then Allah revealed, "There is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they have consumed" [Maidah 5:93], to the end of the verse.Their wine in those days was fadikh, made from unripe dates and ripe dates.
