Anas bin Malik reported,

He walked to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carrying barley bread and rancid fat. He had pawned his armor with a Jewish man and taken some barley for his family. One day I heard him say, and Abdul-Samad said he repeated this several times, "Not a single saa of wheat nor a saa of grain has remained with the family of Muhammad by nightfall," and at that time he had nine wives.
