It was mentioned to me that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, though I did not hear it directly from him, "Among you are a people who will worship devoutly and exert themselves greatly, meaning they will impress others and be impressed with themselves, yet they will pass through the religion as an arrow passes through its prey."

ذكر لي أن نبي الله ﷺ قال ولم أسمعه منه إن فيكم قوما يعبدون ويدأبون يعني يعجبون الناس وتعجبهم أنفسهم يمرقون من الدين كما يمرق السهم من الرمية
