Abu Talha, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I were returning from Khaybar, with Safiyyah riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger's camel stumbled, throwing both the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Safiyyah to the ground.Abu Talha leapt down and said, "Messenger of Allah, may Allah make me your ransom, are you hurt?"The Messenger replied, "I am not sure whether I am or not. See to the woman."Abu Talha threw a garment over his own face and went to her, spread his cloak over her, then prepared her saddle for her. We mounted up again, with one of us on the Messenger's right and the other on his left. As we came within sight of Madinah, or when we were on the heights of al-Harrah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Returning, worshipping, repenting, praising our Lord."He kept repeating these words until we entered Madinah.
عن عبد الأعلى حدثنا يحيى بن أبي إسحاق
أقبلنا من خيبر أنا وأبو طلحة ورسول الله ﷺ وصفية رديفته قال فعثرت ناقة رسول الله ﷺ فصرع رسول الله ﷺ وصرعت صفية قال فاقتحم أبو طلحة فقال يا رسول الله جعلني الله فداك قال أشك قال ذاك أم لا أضررت قال لا عليك المرأة قال فألقى أبو طلحة على وجهه الثوب فانطلق إليها فمد ثوبه عليها ثم أصلح لها رحلها فركبنا ثم اكتنفناه أحدنا عن يمينه والآخر عن شماله فلما أشرفنا على المدينة أو كنا بظهر الحرة قال رسول الله ﷺ آيبون عابدون تائبون لربنا حامدون فلم يزل يقولهن حتى دخلنا المدينة
Its isnad is sahih. Abdul-Ala has fallen out of the printed edition, and the hadith has already appeared in the chapter on the Battle of Khaybar. As for his saying, "Returning, worshipping," it was mentioned by Ibn Abu Shayba 2/520, and Abdul-Razzaq 5/158, no. 9240.
