The tribe of Banu Salama wanted to move from their homes to a place closer to the mosque, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked that the area around the mosque be left vacant. He said, "Banu Salama, will you not seek the reward for your footsteps?" So they remained in their homes.My father said, Yahya bin Saeed made a mistake in this. It should be "that Madinah be left vacant," but Yahya said "the mosque." My father struck this out here, though he had narrated it to us in the book of Yahya bin Saeed.

أن بني سلمة أرادوا أن يتحولوا من ديارهم إلى قرب المسجد فكره رسول الله ﷺ أن يعرى المسجد فقال يا بني سلمة ألا تحتسبون آثاركم فأقاموا قال أبي أخطأ فيه يحيى بن سعيد وإنما هو أن يعروا المدينة فقال يحيى المسجد وضرب عليه أبي هاهنا وقد حدثنا به في كتاب يحيى بن سعيد
