Ikrima reported,

When this verse was revealed, "Indeed, We have given you a clear conquest, that Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow" [Fath 48:1–2], the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Congratulations and blessings to you, Messenger of Allah. But what about us?" So this verse was revealed, "That He may admit the believing men and the believing women to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally, and remove from them their misdeeds" [Fath 48:5].Shuba said, Qatada used to mention this hadith in his sermons, narrating from Anas bin Malik. He said, "This verse was revealed when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from Hudaybiyya, 'Indeed, We have given you a clear conquest, that Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow.' The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Congratulations to you on this.'"Shuba continued, "I assumed the entire hadith was from Anas, so I went to Kufa and narrated it from Qatada from Anas. Then I returned and met Qatada in Wasit, and he was saying that the first part was from Anas and the latter part was from Ikrima. So I went back to the people in Kufa and informed them of this."

حدثنا حجاج حدثني شعبة عن قتادة

عن عكرمة أنه قال

لما نزلت هذه الآية {إنا فتحنا لك فتحا مبينا ليغفر لك الله ما تقدم من ذنبك وما تأخر} ثم يقول قال أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ هنيئا مريئا لك يا رسول الله فما لنا فنزلت هذه الآية {ليدخل المؤمنين والمؤمنات جنات تجري من تحتها الأنهار خالدين فيها ويكفر عنهم سيئاتهم} وقال شعبة كان قتادة يذكر هذا الحديث في قصصه عن أنس بن مالك قال نزلت هذه الآية لما رجع رسول الله ﷺ من الحديبية {إنا فتحنا لك فتحا مبينا ليغفر لك الله ما تقدم من ذنبك وما تأخر} ثم يقول قال أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ هنيئا لك هذا الحديث قال فظننت أنه كله عن أنس فأتيت الكوفة فحدثت عن قتادة عن أنس ثم رجعت فلقيت قتادة بواسط فإذا هو يقول أوله عن أنس وآخره عن عكرمة قال فأتيتهم بالكوفة فأخبرتهم بذلك
