The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered the Ansar and asked, "Is there anyone among you who is not from you?"They replied, "No, except the son of our sister."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The son of a people's sister is one of them." Hajjaj's version has, "or from among them."He then said, "Quraysh are recent in leaving their days of ignorance and have just emerged from hardship. I wanted to mend their hearts and win them over. Are you not pleased that the people return with worldly goods while you return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? If the people were to travel through one valley and the Ansar through another, I would travel through the valley of the Ansar."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة وحجاج قال حدثني شعبة قال سمعت قتادة يحدث
جمع رسول الله ﷺ الأنصار فقال أفيكم أحد من غيركم قالوا لا إلا ابن أخت لنا فقال رسول الله ﷺ ابن أخت القوم منهم قال حجاج أو من أنفسهم فقال إن قريشا حديث عهد بجاهلية ومصيبة وإني أردت أن أجبرهم وأتألفهم أما ترضون أن يرجع الناس بالدنيا وترجعون برسول الله ﷺ إلى بيوتكم لو سلك الناس واديا وسلكت الأنصار شعبا لسلكت شعب الأنصار
