Anas bin Malik reported,

He was ten years old when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina. He said, "My mothers used to encourage me to serve the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I was the most knowledgeable of people about the matter of the hijab when it was revealed. The first occasion of its revelation was when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ consummated his marriage with Zaynab bint Jahsh. He woke up that morning as a bridegroom and invited the people, who came and ate the meal, then left. A small group of them remained with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and lingered for a long time. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up and went out, and I went out with him, hoping they would leave. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ walked, and we walked with him, until he reached the threshold of Ayesha's chamber. Thinking they had gone, he turned back, and I turned back with him, only to find them still sitting there. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ drew a curtain between himself and them, and Allah revealed the verse of the hijab."

حدثنا حجاج بن محمد حدثنا ليث يعني ابن سعد قال حدثني عقيل عن ابن شهاب قال

حدثني أنس بن مالك الأنصاري

أنه كان ابن عشر سنين مقدم رسول الله ﷺ المدينة قال وكان أمهاتي يوطئنني على خدمة رسول الله ﷺ فكنت أعلم الناس بشأن الحجاب حين أنزل وكان أول ما أنزل ابتنى رسول الله ﷺ بزينب بنت جحش أصبح رسول الله ﷺ بها عروسا فدعا القوم فأصابوا من الطعام ثم خرجوا وبقي رهط منهم عند رسول الله ﷺ فأطالوا المكث فقام رسول الله ﷺ فخرج وخرجت معه لكي يخرجوا فمشى رسول الله ﷺ ومشينا معه حتى جاء عتبة حجرة عائشة وظن رسول الله ﷺ أنهم قد خرجوا فرجع ورجعت معه فإذا هم قد خرجوا فضرب رسول الله ﷺ بينه وبينهم بستر وأنزل الله عز وجل الحجاب
