When the Prophet ﷺ came to Khaybar, he found the people heading out to their fields with their spades. When they saw him with the army, they turned back and retreated to their fortress. The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Allah is the Greatest. Khaybar is destroyed. When we descend upon the courtyard of a people, evil is the morning of those who were warned."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن قتادة
لما أتى النبي ﷺ خيبر فوجدهم حين خرجوا إلى زروعهم ومعهم مساحيهم فلما رأوه ومعه الجيش نكصوا فرجعوا إلى حصنهم فقال النبي ﷺ الله أكبر خربت خيبر إنا إذا نزلنا بساحة قوم فساء صباح المنذرين
