Take note that the witr prayer is not obligatory like your prescribed prayers, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed witr and then said, "Perform witr, people of the Quran, perform witr, for Allah is one and loves what is odd in number." This is the wording of the hadith of Abdullah bin Sandal, and the meaning of both reports is the same.
حدثنا عبد الله حدثنا عبد الله بن صندل وسويد بن سعيد جميعا في سنة ست وعشرين ومائتين قالا حدثنا أبو بكر بن عياش عن أبي إسحاق عن عاصم بن ضمرة السلولي قال
ألا إن الوتر ليس بحتم كصلاتكم المكتوبة ولكن رسول الله ﷺ أوتر ثم قال أوتروا يا أهل القرآن أوتروا فإن الله وتر يحب الوتر وهذا لفظ حديث عبد الله بن صندل ومعناهما واحد
Its isnad is sahih. Abdullah bin Sandal is a shaykh among the shaykhs of Abdullah bin Ahmad. Both he and others narrated from him. Husayni said, "He is unknown," but Hafiz responded to this in Taajeel 225, saying, "How can someone be unknown when a group narrated from him, and Ahmad gave his son permission to write from him? For Abdullah would only take from someone his father gave him permission to take from."The hadith is given at length at 1227 and 1231, and hadiths 1259–1261 are among the additions of Abdullah bin Ahmad.
